  • Xavier Delpech - Producer, Sound Engineer, Musician

Arnaud Simon, Les Fréres Brothers, Magoo, Blow; Owner of Rare Analog Studio, France

Tell us a bit about your work, what have you worked on recently?

I am a musician, arranger, realizer and sound engineer, I have worked in various studios in Paris a few years ago. 2005 I decided to install my studio on the basin of Arcachon near Bordeaux and next to the sea, the place where I always lived. We made the dvd of a humorous French group vocal with a lot of bonus, and I work on the album of a french singer Arnaud Simon who makes pop songs, I'm  making the mixi of this album.

At the moment I'm doing the mixining for the french pop singer Arnaud Simon.

In general, what is your specific idea/ideal on sound, what makes a good sound? How does the idea of a specific sound develope?

For me what is important it is that the sound breathes, that it lives, for that the sound recording remains essential.

When you work on a project, how do you usually develop the idea of a sound or the idea of what an artist should sound like? What is your approach?

I always try to follow the idea of the artist. I am there only to equip his composition and when confidence is installed I propose many things as well on the harmonic as the structures and of course  on the sound which the album can take.

What do you think were the important innovations (sound engineering/recording technology) for the last few years?

around the computers the software evolved/moved considerably to arrive at an extraodinaire quality, but also thanks to the quality always ceaseless of the converters and the preamplis, compressors and equaliseurs who knew to evolve/move around these installations

Can you describe how these innovations have taken influence on the creative process?

that makes it possible to work more in-depth on the pieces to take various directions, to multiply the compositions and arrangements and with final to better determine the artistic direction of an album. It is also true for the live one and audio and video recording.

Can you describe what new directions you see with recording technology, where is headed?

computers and lociels increasingly powerful what will still reduce the border between hardware and software

Which changes did the digitalization of sound bring to you - challenges and advantages. How did it take influence on the creative process?

hardest at the beginning at summer to find same quality as into analogic but without the disadvantages of that . I will not retrogress for all the gold of the world! I use protools and the editing is at the same time very powerful and very flexible, which makes it possible to go always further in the process of creation of a piece. and then thanks to the quality of the converters and the plug ins now one reached tops of qualities!

How do you see the future of digital sound in general- any visions?

I think that the most beautiful days are to be come with a development from harware to help to make turn the software better and better

What role do plug-ins play within your work in general, how do they help you?

I use finally very few plug ins because I work much with machines, but their help is very invaluable! some equalisers, compressors, and all that relates to the analysis of the sound for mixer for me it is very important, and then I use much the plugs to dirty the sound.

We hear you use RND Plug-ins; did you use them on these projects?

    On all my projects.

How do RND Plug-ins help you with your work? How are they integrated into your creative process?

I make use of it primarily on my mix,  for my levels, the problems of phases which there could be, my stereophony but also for their analysis of spectrum very precise and which saves me the life per moment!

Which RND Plug-ins do you use most frequently? What are your favourite features?

The ANALYZER of spectrum is the plug that I use more in mode FFT ANALYZER and Oct. ANALYZER, on separate tracks but also on my exits of mix which enable me to rectify the shooting per moment a little.

Can you tell us why you chose RND Plug-ins or what specific characteristic they have?

By what bundle is complete, reliable for them without ornaments and very precis, and then their price is not excessive whole, I adore them!
